In the Summer of 2024, a dam malfunction caused the water in Dundee Pond (Windham) to drain, offering a short-lived glimpse of what the Presumpscot River looked like before industrialization. It showed the river below the dammed waters, giving new insight into that which once flowed & the human history that was lost. It also foretold what could come again.
Join Michael Shaughnessy & Windham Historical Society for a conversation about the lost wildness of this ancient ‘river of many falls’. Though the dam has been repaired & the rushing waters silenced, we can vividly remember its breath and know what the river was. We can understand the loss, but also, what it might be again. New visions toward an old river have been born.
