Please join us along with Falmouth Land Trust on Thursday, October 8th at 4:30pm at River Point Conservation Area for a guided walk led by Minquansis Sapiel. Minquansis will help us to learn more about the history of the beautiful lands upon which we live; unceded Wabanaki territory. She will share her knowledge and history of her people and how waterways like the Presumpscot were a source of life for food and gathering.

About Minquansis: Minquansis (pronounced Min-Gwon-sis) Sapiel is Passamaquoddy and Penobscot. She is an enrolled member of the Passamaquoddy Tribe (part of the Wabanaki Confederacy) from Sipayik, one of the two Passamaquoddy reservations in Maine. Her clan is the Seagull clan, and she grew up in Sipayik overlooking the Passamaquoddy Bay and playing along the shoreline of the reservation. She is a mother of three children. While raising two of her kids, she received her Masters degree in Social Work and became the first in her family to graduate with her Masters degree. She also earned her Captain's license and has plans to start her own business called Passamaquoddy Eco tours that will provide whale watching and historical/cultural boat tours. Her hope is to connect people to Passamaquoddy Bay and her people in hopes that they will learn from their experience, want to support tribal sovereignty, and work to protect the marine life that also have lived and traveled there since creation. She is a published author of a children's book called “Little People of the Dawn,” a beautiful story about staying true to your heart growing up in a community with love and joy for their culture and Homelands. She is currently promoting her children's book with her daughter, who is also the illustrator. She has a strong belief of carrying as much culture to the next generation so they can grow up confident and proud of their heritage.
Parking is available in the Hannaford parking lot at 63 Gray Road, Falmouth. The group will meet near the bridge over the railroad tracks (near the big flagpole).
