Rewilding the Presumpscot at Windham Public Library

  • Windham Public Library 217 Windham Center Road Windham, ME, 04062 United States (map)

In the Spring of 2024, a dam malfunction on the Presumpscot River caused the water in Dundee Pond (Windham) to drain, offering a short-lived glimpse of what Maine's rivers looked like before industrialization. It also devastated much of an ecosystem.

Join Friends of the Presumpscot River’s Michael Shaughnessy for a conversation about the lost wildness of this ancient ‘river of many falls’. Though the dam has been repaired and the water again stilled (impounded), we can vividly remember its breath and know what the river was. We can understand the loss, but also, what it might be again.

Free, no registration necessary.
