Join Friends of the Presumpscot River and Portland Paddle for a guided river float, paddling from Mallison Falls to the upper section of the Little River. This special fundraising event will include an interpretive tour with Dr. Robert Sanford, Professor & Chair of University of Southern Maine’s Department of Environmental Science and Policy, and author of Reading the Rural Landscape. During the float, Rob will point out common features along the river, such as plants, trees and stonework, illustrating how human influence has shaped our regional landscape and how these remnants continue to tell the story of our industrialized past.
Meet at the Canal Street Boat Launch in Windham, below Mallison Falls, on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. The paddle will start promptly at 10 a.m. and is estimated to finish at 11:30 a.m. Take out is at the St. Pierre Boat Launch off Mosher Road (Route 237) in Gorham. Transportation will be available to bring paddlers back to Canal Street. Boat rentals available onsite or bring your own boat. Paddlers are responsible for bringing water, sunscreen or any other necessary personal items for the float. A suggested donation of $20 for the float will include an annual membership with Friends of the Presumpscot River.
