Friends of the Presumpscot River

People ask what water is.   It is the origin of all things,
and the ancestral temple of all life.
Water produces the beautiful and the ugly,
the virtuous and wicked, the foolish and the clever.

NEWS UPDATES
On June 29, 2009 Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Commissioner Roland Martin passed down his decision to require SAPPI to install fish passage at its Cumberland Mill Dam. This is a great success for the Presumpscot River. This ruling was necessary because the FERC licenses on the next upstream dams are contingent on fish passage at Cumberland Mills. Passage at CM will allow for sea run fish such as shad, alewives and river herring to move upstream. While there is still much work to be done, this is a huge and crucial step toward the revival of this magnificent river.
