Friends Of The Presumpscot River

Founded in 1992, the Friends of the Presumpscot River (FOPR) is an incorporated non-profit organization committed to protecting and improving the water quality, wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, and natural character of the Presumpscot River and its shorelands.

FOPR is an all-volunteer organization, supported by membership dues, donations, and occasional fundraising efforts.

  • Conducting a watershed survey

  • Assisting the Maine DEP with sampling to create a new model for the river

  • Forming the Presumpscot River Watershed Alliance

  • Working with the DEP to develop stricter standards for SAPPI discharge license

  • Participation in Coast Week Cleanup programs, Casco Bay Estuary Project, Greater Portland Council of Governments Watershed Management Plan, Maine Environmental Priorities Project, and the Maine River Summit
